Dark Threads: Child Exploitation in the 19th Century Textile Industry.
3 February at 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm
By Suzanne Coulson

This month our speaker will be Suzanne Coulson, a volunteer secretary and trustee with Knaresborough Museum Association. Her background is in children’s nursing and clinical education, but she always had an interest in history, especially social history.
Her talk is entitled Dark Threads: Child Exploitation in the 19th Century Textile Industry. For the recent exhibition at the Knaresborough Heritage Centre Suzanne researched the experiences of children who were a significant part of the workforce in the textile industry not only in Knaresborough but throughout the country.
This event provides another opportunity to hear Suzanne’s presentation if you were unable to attend her talk at the Heritage Centre last May. The talk has been described as harrowing in parts leaving the audience stunned into silence as it vividly depicted the grim realities faced by thousands of children in the industry.
Note! This meeting will be in the Challoner Hall at the rear of the school.
