Letter from our Chairman

Dear Friends

At the last AGM, I was appointed as Chairman for the coming 2024/2025 year.
2024 represents the 50th Anniversary of the Knaresborough Historical Society, whose Constitution was inaugurated on 20th June 1974. Over the years, the Society, like many other clubs and societies, has enjoyed a series of ups and downs. Membership numbers slowly declined until we saw a significant uptick in both membership and attendance at our monthly talks in the past few years. It is particularly encouraging to see a “younger” profile to the membership.
I hope that this can continue, however we do need a few more members to offer their support to help the Society to function.
We currently have a vacancy for Secretary. This position involves liaising with our venue owners to arrange bookings for our meetings and taking minutes at our AGM and at our periodic committee meetings. This is not a too onerous job.
We would also like someone in the Society to step forward to assist on the night of our meetings with the sound and vision systems. Full instruction will be given.
Yours sincerely, Alex De Gier – Chairman and Speaker’s Secretary.
